In St-Germain-des-Prés, where a couple of our Paris apartments 6th are situated, check out the church of St-Sulpice, a scene of tragic passion in the novel Manon Lescaut, and have a coffee in the Café de Flore (172 bd St-Germain, 6th) where intellectual bigwigs Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir used to meet. Take rue Bonaparte to the Seine, look into the Ecole des Beaux-Arts to sigh amid the remains of classical statuary massed here during the Revolution (this is not strictly allowed, but if you don't look like obvious tourists, you can walk in). You might want to pop into the Bon Marché to buy fab goodies from around the world. To savour of course whilst back in your holiday flats in Paris.
All of our holiday flats in Paris are central to this area so you may want to pop back to your Paris apartments 6th, 1st or in the Marais for a breather. Otherwise, cross the Pont des Arts footbridge that delivers you at the Louvre. Walk through the ornate Cour Carré and the Cour Napoléon, past the glorious glass pyramid and admire the emperor's pink marble Arc du Caroussel, built for his wedding to Josephine. Walk under the archway to reach rue de Rivoli.
Take the rue de Rohan which leads to the Palais Royal, a pleasure garden designed for revelry and romancing before the Revolution and now a calm courtyard filled with trees and fountains. If you are staying at one of our Paris holiday apartments around the Louvre, then you are nearby. Our Paris apartments 6th are just across the river. In the cloisters are chic shops including Les Salons du Palais-Royal Shisheido (142 Galerie de Valois, 1st) where you can try musky fragrances in an 18th-century inspired décor. If your feeling flushed for cash, and don't feel like heading back to you apartment in the 6th or our other Paris holiday flats, have lunch at the Grand Véfour, 17, rue de Beaujolais, 1st (01 42 96 56 27 - reservations necessary), one of Paris' oldest and most historically powered restaurants. The mirror-studded dining room is magnificent. And if you've got any energy left after lunch, you might consider following our 'afternoon' tour - separate link. More realistically, you will want to stroll back to your Paris flat and save that for perhaps for another holiday!
